Cambodia Gambling Halls
January 5th, 2025 by Andrea

There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling den gaming is prohibited. Eight gambling halls are situated in a generally small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent spot, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; however, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are apparently needed to cross, there are means around this, as is true of most borders.

The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat casino, features 150 slot machine games and sixty table games. The Naga gambling den is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machines and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 table games, including 87 punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the common tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international vacation and hotel compound that contains many luxuries in addition to the casino, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
